Psychotherapy and coaching

Welcome to Workability. My aim is to support you to build the life you want.

How I can help

Almost everyone feels ‘stuck’ in dealing with life’s challenges at times. As a registered psychologist with over twenty years’ experience, challenges I can help you with include:

  • Stress, burnout, anxiety, depression, anger, and frustration.

  • Difficult workplace situations and relationships.

  • Managing ADHD in the workplace and in life.

  • Career direction, job transitions, advancing in your career, and building workplace skills.

  • Re-entering the workforce after a career break.

  • Stopping or starting new habits.

  • Sleep difficulties.

  • Talking through difficult life experiences and decisions, and finding a way forward.

Reaching out for support can be hard, but it’s worthwhile.  If you’d like to explore working with me, please feel very welcome to contact me for a brief phone consultation at no charge or obligation.

My approach

Workability is the art and science of building a rich and meaningful life. In our work together, my aim is to support you to build the life you want, by helping you connect with your values and take effective action.

My aim is to work with you as a team, so that you feel heard and understood. My approach is practical, supportive, and solution-focused. If our work together is successful, it will equip you with skills that will last you a lifetime.

It’s important to me that the support I provide is grounded in evidence, so that you can be confident it’s likely to help. As such, I primarily practice Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution-Focused Coaching. ACT is a recent evolution of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), which incorporates and adapts many traditional CBT techniques. Solution-Focused Coaching is a brief, pragmatic approach which is very helpful for addressing immediate issues.

Dr Carl Beuke

I'm a registered psychologist with over twenty years' experience.  I'm also a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society.

I first studied cognitive-behavioural therapy at Victoria University of Wellington, where I earned my PhD in psychology. For my PhD, I studied how anxiety and depression shape our perceptions and memories. I’ve since completed further specialist training and supervised practice in ACT and Solution-Focused Coaching.

My work as a psychologist has included working with hundreds of people from all walks of life, from students to people in frontline roles to chief executives.

My research into anxiety and depression has been widely cited by other researchers. My popular writing for Psychology Today has also been referenced by Forbes magazine and numerous other authors. I’ve also trained in the martial arts for over seventeen years, which has given me personal experience of using psychological skills to overcome demanding challenges.
